新闻公告 News - “欢喜闹元宵”元宵庆祝活动 “Happy Lantern Festival”Celebration Week
After winter break, it’s time to get back to school! The new school term has just started with the celebration of the Lantern Festival!
As the Lantern Festival is one of the Chinese traditional festivals, we held a series of activities for our children to celebrate. During our first day back to school children were dressed up in traditional Chinese clothes and some of their grandparents and parents also joined at the celebrations.
To their surprise, there were many beautiful Chinese ink paintings waiting as children arrived at school. These paintings representing Chinese classical art were created by our talented grandparents!
In the Multi-Function Room, Principal Holly started the celebration with some new term wishes for the children and each student also received a little toy Pig as a Chinese New Year gift.
Then there were exciting and wonderful performances such as Beijing opera, songs, taichi fan dance, and saxophone music all performed by grandparents and parents! With children singing along with the song ‘I Love China’, the enjoyable show time came to an end.
In the classrooms, children were provided with materials to make Tang Yuan. They learned fast and each of them made a bag of cute little white balls, that they could cook and enjoy with the family in the evening.
Lanterns were also one of the festival’s traditions. Children chose their favorite color paper and made their own lantern. Some of them had enough time to make an extra paper pig!
Throughout the week, children tried other materials to make lanterns. Some lanterns were made with colored plastic wrap and some with red felt. They were of various shapes and styles.
Inspired by the grandparents ink paintings, children tried to use ink and some dough to create a beautiful winter picture – a spray of plum blossoms.
Children had a lot of fun throughout the week for the celebration of the Lantern Festival. They also learned more about the Chinese traditional culture through different activities. We wish every student to be happy, healthy and keep learning in the new term!
