保育教育 Childcare, 实践活动 - 感受国粹，京剧探秘 Exploring Chinese Opera
The color unit is a really fun unit for K1 students! Within the first couple weeks, K1 students have learned so much about color and how it can be expressed; such as, through emotions, seasons, etc. But that’s not all, teachers continue to ask questions to deeper the students’ knowledge; do colors convey other meanings? Does it have a different meaning in a Chinese Opera Mask? With the help from parents, the students were able to see the Chinese opera performances and answer these questions. The performer performed different dances with different masks. He also allowed for a few students to change his mask. The children were able to learn more about colors and Chinese history through the performance! For example, red face means loyalty, integrity, courage, and uprightness. Black mask expresses seriousness in both speech and manner. White performance represents suspicious, and derogatory. It was a pleasure to see these performances and deepen our knowledge of color.
