保育教育 Childcare, 实践活动 - English Perspective – March
This month in K3 our unit of inquiry was Healthy Living. We covered all sorts of exciting topics that the students really enjoyed. We learned about some of our internal systems, such as our skeleton and our digestive system. The students loved the hospital role-play centre where they could give check-ups and treat patients. We also spent some time inquiring about a healthy diet. Students learned about the food groups and the importance of a balanced diet. We have seen many students take action throughout the unit by reducing the amount of sugar they consume in their diet and making more healthy choices. We also emphasized physical fitness as a part of daily life. We took a trip to the Kerry Hotel Gym, a yoga teacher visited our school, and we were outside playing sports during free time. Finally, we also learned about hygiene. Students presented about a specific aspect of hygiene and why it’s important.
In English, the students continue to make great progress in our Teachers College Reading and Writing Project. In writing workshop, the students have started writing true stories about some of their own personal encounters. They are planning across pages and writing some wonderful multi-page stories. In reading workshop, we have reached a special stage in the project where we are celebrating our seven super reading powers. It’s been great to see the students’ progress and we can’t wait to see their growth in the final three months of kindergarten!
K2C has had an exciting month! We have been exploring our unit about “Art”, we invited parents from the different classes to come in and show us different arts. We saw dancing, magic and flower arranging; they were very excited about seeing the different art forms especially performed by their parents! In K2C we have started our writing workshops, lots of princesses and monstersJ, they are finding this activity exciting as they can draw lots of pictures and show what they love. We are now coming to the end of our unit and art and we have asked the children to choose their most favourite art form and make a performance in which we will showcase as a class, they have been putting their thinking caps on and are ready for the show in two weeks time!
March has been an exciting month for the K1 children! The children have been working hard, learning all about animals for their animals unit.
As luck would have it, they got a chance to look closely at, and follow the hatching of 2 baby pigeons, which were born on the Victoria school balcony.
On Thursday, the 23rd of March, we had our K1 field trip to the Zoo! The K1 children, with their teachers and parents excitedly boarded the coach.
First there was a safari, as the coach drove through different animal enclosures. The children could see from the coach, what kind of habitats animals such as lions, wolves, zebras lived in.
Then it was time to have a walk around the zoo and fill out a work sheet on our chosen class animal. The K1 students could answer difficult questions such as, is their animal nocturnal? What food does their animal eat? Where do they live? Everyone was then able to continue to explore the zoo and have some lunch before heading back to the coach to go home.
The trip to the zoo was a great success as the children were able to consolidate what they had learnt in class through a firsthand, up close experience with the animals.
