保育教育 Childcare, 实践活动, 新闻公告 News - English Perspective – December
December was a very busy month for K3A! We were learning new “Super Powers” in our Reading Workshop. Students learned new skills such as how they can use their fingers to point to each word and to find “snap words.” We had many opportunities for individual and partner reading, and after a quick test many students were able to move up levels in our leveled reader series. We also worked hard during our Writing Workshop. Students had been practicing; Think, Draw, Label. With December beginning we started to think about stories and writing in many stages… beginning, middle and end. Students started Writer’s Workshop thinking about a 4 day story that they could write. They were very successful with their writing topics and staying focused on their ideas. We continued to learn more vocabulary and high frequency words, we sang songs and practiced speaking and listening.
The students began their third unit – How We Express Ourselves: Stories. The students shared their favorite stories. We learned about the many elements of a story and used this information to help us in our Writer’s Workshop. The students heard many stories to think about the different emotions they could feel and we cried a little bit at “The Little Match Girl.”
At the end of the month we had a Christmas Dinner and performance. The students prepared many weeks and did a great job dancing and singing to Mr. Frosty Winter.
It was a hectic exciting month of December. The children were really excited about Christmas and extensively rehearsing for the Christmas dinner performance. The children’s hard work paid off when they were given the honor of opening the evening’s activities with their show-stopping dance of Oh Santa, performed with their two teachers. The children listened to a different Christmas song each week in December and learnt it. Songs like Jingle Bells, Santa Claus is coming to town and Rudolf were just a few that the children learned and will remember for many Christmases to come. During literacy time we introduced them to shared reading, read-aloud and shared writing. We have completed Set A of the high frequency word books and are reviewing them now until we break for Chinese New Year.
